DuMA’s In the Mind’s Eye (ITME) respite program, taking place first and third Fridays, September 2 through October 28 at the Dubuque Museum of Art, is committed to improving the quality of life and bringing the joy of art to people living with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. ITME is modeled after the Arts & Minds program of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. ITME empowers people with dementia and their family members and caregivers.
The program provides meaningful art centered activities that create positive cognitive, emotional, and social experiences, reduce isolation and build community. Participants look at and talk about art, engage in an art activity, and share conversation in a safe and compassionate environment.
