In a perfect world, everyone would be aware of the needs in their own communities and step forward willingly to help others. In reality, this is often not the case. This is why we have a vast system of coordinated non-profit groups in the Tri-States area who work to fulfill the needs of our neighbors. Funding comes from a variety of sources; private, federal, and state, but sometimes the needs are greater than the resources can cover. That’s when the United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States steps in. Not only do they provide help for immediate, crisis-caused needs, but they also act as an umbrella group, helping to raise money and distribute it to many other non-profits that need the support. For this kind of fundraising to be substantial and successful, community awareness is key. That’s where this year’s Co-Chairs, or ‘Co-Cheers’ as they like to call themselves, come in. Both with big voices and a wide audience, Gary Dolphin and Joie Borland Booth have stepped up to the plate to lead fundraising efforts for the United Way.
