Premier Event – The Scouting Golf Classic

It’s time to tee off for a cause as the Scouting Golf Classic returns for its 26th year. On July 15, 2024, the Scouting Golf Classic will host community members for a day of swinging clubs, savoring s’mores, and supporting a noble cause at Thunder Hills Country Club. Held annually to bolster and broaden Scouting programs for our youth, this year’s event promises an exciting new tradition: the renowned Golf Cannon. This innovative twist has captivated golfers and spectators alike, enhancing the experience and injecting a new level of excitement into the tournament.

The Scouting Golf Classic stands as a beacon of community engagement, rallying individuals from all walks of life to come together in support of a shared mission: nurturing the next generation of leaders. Through Scouting programs, young people develop essential life skills, foster friendships, and cultivate values that will guide them through adulthood. With each swing of the club, participants contribute to the empowerment and enrichment of our youth.

At the heart of the Scouting Golf Classic lies the Golf Cannon, a unique feature that has taken the golfing world by storm. This cutting-edge technology propels golf balls with unparalleled force, challenging players to test their skills and push their limits. The thrill of watching balls soar through the air, propelled by the sheer power of the cannon, adds an element of excitement and spectacle to the tournament.

“The teams golfing at the Scouting Golf Classic aren’t just hitting golf balls; they’re hitting home the message of community support and empowerment for our youth,” said Carl J. Bobis, CFRE, CEO/Scout Executive of the Northeast Iowa Council, BSA. “The funds raised from this event play a vital role in expanding Scouting programs and providing young people with the tools they need to become tomorrow’s leaders. Together, we’re driving positive change and shaping a brighter future for our communities.”

But the excitement doesn’t end there. In a delightful fusion of tradition and innovation, Scouts are stationed on the course serving up freshly made s’mores, adding a delicious twist to the golfing experience. As players navigate the fairways and greens, they have the opportunity to indulge in this classic campfire treat, courtesy of the Scouts. The aroma of toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate wafts through the air, evoking fond memories of outdoor adventures and camaraderie.

Beyond the fun and games, the Scouting Golf Classic serves a noble purpose. For more than two decades, this event has been a cornerstone of community support, raising vital funds to expand and enhance Scouting programs for youth. Every swing of the club and every s’more enjoyed on the course contributes to this important cause, ensuring that more young people have access to the opportunities and experiences that Scouting provides.

While the Scouting Golf Classic has been around a quarter of a century – Scouting itself has been around for more than a century, with the Northeast Iowa Council in existence since 1916. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with more than 1,250 youth (ages 5 to 20) currently participating in packs, troops, crews, and posts. The small five-person staff support the youth activities with more than 700 parents and volunteers providing the path to character, leadership, and skill building.

As July 15 approaches, anticipation builds for another unforgettable edition of the Scouting Golf Classic. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking to test your skills against the Golf Cannon or a supporter of youth empowerment, this event offers something for everyone. Join the Northeast Iowa Council, BSA on the greens for a day of camaraderie, competition, and celebration as we tee off for a brighter future for our youth and our communities.
