The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is offering a low-cost, walk-in microchip clinic on Friday, March 1, from 11:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
Animals with a microchip are reunited with their families at a much higher rate than those who are not chipped, and it is a DRHS priority to make this option accessible and available to anyone with pets. The regular walk-in price of microchips is $40, but for this special clinic the price is only $25.
In 2023, 1,116 stray cats were brought in to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. Of those, only 53 cats (4.7%) were reunited with their families. In the same year, 413 stray dogs were brought in and 189 dogs (45.7%) were reunited with their families. According to DRHS Director of Operations, Bri Eickhoff, “A chip provides information used to contact a pet’s family, and facilitates quicker and easier reunification should the animal get lost.”
The process is quick and easy, and should take under ten minutes. No appointment is needed, but to participate, dogs must be on leash, and cats must be in carriers. For more information, visit Dbqhumane.org.
