Loras College Faculty & Staff to Present an Original “Scooby-Doo” Parody

Loras College faculty and staff present Dewey-Du and the Ghoul in School, a comedy by alumnus Alex McCarthy (’12), Thursday & Friday, August 27 & 28 at 7:30 PM.

Inspired by the classic cartoon series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, this comedy mystery follows a gang of Loras first-year students as they investigate the Civil War Specter haunting Hoffmann Hall. With everyone from Duhawk football stars and LCTV anchors to Hamlet cast members and even Provost Summers under suspicion, Ted, Staphne, Thelma, Shabby, and everyone’s favorite Duhawk, Dewey, set out to unmask the ghoul. Will they save Homecoming, enjoy Autumn James and the Leaves, and pass Detective Studies 101?

The cast includes faculty and staff representing a variety of academic programs and offices across Loras College’s campus. The cast features Justin Busch as Ted, Courtney Cobb as Staphne, Angie Kohlhaas as Thelma, Ben Darr as Shabby, and Molly Menster as Dewey with a large ensemble of supporting characters played by Valerie Bell, Tricia Borelli, Kate Cooper, Susan Crook, Anna Degen, John Eby, Maria Gentile, Will Kanyusik, Jacob Kohlhaas, Kirstin Lauritsen, Roy Pillers, and Sabrina Schultz McClain. Cameo appearances are made by Loras College First Lady Martha Doyle. Associate professor and director of theatre Ryan M. Decker directs, with professor of criminal justice Valerie Bell stage managing, community member Steve Wilke as scenery construction supervisor, associate professor of public relations Neely Farren-Eller as costume supervisor, counselor Italee Castellonas properties supervisor, and professors Bell, Cooper, and Eby co-producing.

The biennial Faculty/Staff Play is a popular, longstanding Loras College tradition. The productions raise money for the college’s Faculty-Staff Scholarship for students. The production is supported by the Loras Players, established in 1910, the oldest, continuously operating theatre troupe west of the Mississippi.

Dewey-Du and the Ghoul in School runs Thursday & Friday, August 27 & 28 at 7:30 PM in St. Joseph Auditorium, Hoffmann Hall on the Loras College campus. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 for students and $10 for non-students, cash, at the door. Proceeds benefit the Loras Faculty-Staff Scholarship.
