Places of worship throughout Dubuque are busy making plans to celebrate the holidays with special worship services, children’s Christmas pageants, caroling, and more. Here’s what five congregations will be doing in December to celebrate the season.
Bridge Christian Church
Dubuque’s Bridge Christian Church is a nondenominational church that comes out the Restoration Movement of the 1800s when leaders emphasized “Biblical Authority” and Christian unity based on the scriptures. Some 120 attendees worship at the Bridge each Sunday and support the church’s mission statement “Real Jesus. Real Hope.”
“We opened in 2001,” said Bekah Delaney, Bridge Administrator. “We were a mobile church until 2011 when we purchased the old DaVinci’s Restaurant building downtown at 9th and Bluff Streets. We just completed a facelift on the interior and exterior and a rebranding. We kept the DaVinci’s bar. We use it as a coffee bar before and after church. We also kept the booths and tables. You get the restaurant feel with a Christian message.”
“We are doing our Christmas Eve service on the 24th,” said Bekah. “It’s one service, family style at 4:30 p.m. We are going to have the Bridge Kidz, our children’s ministry that includes pre-schoolers through our youth group, help tell the Christmas story. We will also take communion together. After the service, we’ll have cookies, hot cocoa, and coffee. Everyone is invited. I know that’s a simple answer to ‘who is welcome?’ but it’s always been our stance.”
