When one thinks of philanthropy, you might include only those who support others with monetary gifts. According to Merriam-Webster.com, philanthropy is “goodwill to fellow members of the human race” or “an act or gift done or made for humanitarian purposes.” Among the tristate area, there are thousands of people who are philanthropists. You are likely one of them. The reasons people give are many. The impact of your gifts may never be fully known, but you continue to support others for humanitarian purposes.
There is another side to giving. It’s the people and organizations who take on the coordinating of raising those funds that will enhance our community. In the tristate area, there is a local chapter of a national organization for people who work in this field. It’s the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Tri-State Chapter (AFP-GTS).
Association of Fundraising Professionals International (AFP) is the professional association of individuals and organizations that generate philanthropic support for a wide variety of charitable institutions. Founded in 1960, AFP advances philanthropy through its 27,000 members in more than 240 chapters throughout the world, including your local GTS Chapter. AFP has inspired global change and supported efforts that have generated over $1 trillion. Globally, AFP’s individual and organizational members raise over $115 billion annually.
