Artist John Elliott of Madison, WI, will exhibit his paintings inspired by places along the Mississippi River. He grew up in a small river town and in his paintings shares his passion for all the interesting places on and around the great Mississippi River.
Joy of Forgiveness (on site) – Saturday, Mar. 5 @ 9:30 AM-5 PM
There’s never been a better time to remove the barriers to a healthy, productive life! Sometimes people hurt one another so deeply it cannot be forgotten. Explore the possibilities of being free from grudges, resentment, self-defeating habits, and negative feelings. Sandy Hoenig will show us how forgiving leads to stopping the pain and brings hope for the future.
Glass Art for Teacher/Student Gallery Exhibit (on site) – Saturday, Mar. 5 @ 10 AM-12 PM
Barb McKinlay, an artist from Dubuque, IA, will guide students in designing their own art piece that will be on display at Sinsinawa Art Gallery for a show in April and May 2022. Students will design a bowl, plate, or tray using pieces of cut glass, pebbles, stringers, and noodles. Bring your lunch and stay for the afternoon class where you can make a coordinating square tray.

Artist Barb McKinlay will help you design your own art glass tray using pieces of cut glass, pebbles, stringers, and noodles. You can also make a pendant or magnet.

On the Threshold of Three Strokes: A Simple Practice for Visual Journaling and Reflection (Zoom) – Wednesdays, Mar. 9, 16, 23 @ 6:30 PM-8:30 PM
Sister Stella DeVenuta, OSF, will lead us in this three-part series that involves combining lines and words. Similar to Chinese brush painting, we will create three effortless strokes, to evoke the essence of the three-line verses that will emerge. Attendance at the three sequential sessions will enable the process to unfold. Participants will playfully engage their imagination using words and their “inner” vision to give expression to the simple brush stroke images.
Catherine of Siena: Spiritual Director and Pastoral Theologian (Zoom) – Saturday, Mar. 12 @ 10 AM-12 PM
Catherine of Siena was a 14th-century Dominican mystic. Although best known as the author of the Dialogue, it is in her letters we discover Catherine the spiritual director. Her letters reveal a warm, tender, and understanding person. She wrote to prisoners and popes, royalty and social outcasts. Catherine shows extraordinary understanding and compassion. We will read some of these letters and explore her principles of spiritual direction.
Sacred Land-Wild Church: Spring Equinox (on site) – Saturday, Mar. 19 @ 2 PM-3:30 PM
Fire and song, ritual and community, prayer and quiet: this outdoor, ecumenical gathering is centered on honoring sacred land and sacred time. In a time of planetary upheaval, it is crucial to recover our elemental sense of connection and kinship with Creator and creation. Our gathering draws on Celtic spirituality and its calendar, as well as the growing Wild Church and Forest Church movements.
“Neutral Ground” and Indigenous Dispossession in the Upper Mississippi (Zoom) – Tuesday, Mar. 22 @ 7 PM-8 PM
Mary Elise Antonie will discuss the “Neutral Ground” and how it became the impetus to remove the Ho-Chunk and “civilize” Ho-Chunk children. Antonie is president of the Prairie du Chien Historical Society and a Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation board member. She has authored several books.

The son of an Italian-American father and an African-American mother, the author grew up in the 1950s in segregated Virginia. In this memoir of his youth, Williams recounts his remarkable journey along the color line and illuminates the contrasts between the black and white worlds.

Julie Tebbe serves on the Franciscan Charism Team as Inviting & Discerning Minister. Julie graduated with a degree in Music Education from Briar Cliff University in 1992. She grew up in a musical family in a small town in Eastern Iowa, where she started playing guitar at her parish when she was in 2nd grade. Julie will share with you her love of music and springtime in celebration of the resurrection season.
Mexican-American Multicultural Dinner & Movie – Tuesday, Mar. 29 @ 4 PM-8 PM, Shalom Dining Room
When Cortez began the conquest of Mexico in 1519, he was accompanied by missionaries of the Franciscan Order. By the end of the century, more than 1000 Franciscans ministered to Indian converts and Spanish citizens throughout the colony. Celebrate that rich history with a smorgasbord of Mexican-American food, complete with the ambiance of Mexican-Hispanic music from the Dave Overby band.
