Premier Event: Dubuque Symphony Orchestra presents ‘Carnival of the Animals’ March 4-5

The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra welcomes back the Heartland Marimba Quartet, by popular demand, to its March Classics and Family Concerts. The ensemble made their debut with the DSO in 2021, to great acclaim.

They will perform the world premiere of American composer Kevin Romanski’s Concerto for Marimba Quartet and Orchestra as well as an old favorite celebrating a wide range of wildlife: Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals.

“Carnival is one of the pieces I have wanted to perform in Dubuque for many years,” shares Music Director and Conductor William Intriligator. “And the sight and sound of four marimbas with orchestra will be absolutely mesmerizing!”

The program also includes French composer Georges Bizet’s Symphony in C, a youthful piece written when the composer was only 17 years old.

Performances will be held 7:30 PM Saturday, March 4th and 2 PM Sunday, March 5th at Five Flags Theater, downtown Dubuque.

Tickets (starting at $20) are available through the Five Flags Box Office, or DubuqueSymphony.org (Ticketmaster fees apply to online purchases). $10 student tickets will be available at the theater ticket counter one hour prior to each performance (based on availability); be prepared to show student ID.

DSO Family – Saturday, March 4th at 1 PM

The DSO’s Spring Family concert returns with an engaging, kid-sized concert designed to ignite the imagination and foster a lifelong love of music.

The family program will include Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, featuring the Heartland Marimba Quartet. In this work, the composer offers an amusing portrait of various animals in a “grand zoological fantasy”.

The family concert is approximately one hour in length, and also features movie music from The Avengers, Encanto, and Harry Potter. Post-concert festivities follow, including a photo booth, activity tables and instrument petting zoo.

Tickets (starting at $14) are available through the Five Flags Box Office, or DubuqueSymphony.org (Ticketmaster fees apply to online purchases).

This concert is made possible by the generous support of Concert Sponsor: Chad and Laura Chandlee Family, with additional thanks to Media Sponsor: Telegraph Herald.
