UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital Re-Certified For Excellence In Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation And CMS 5 Star Rating

The Cardiac Rehabilitation department at UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital has been re-certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

As the only peer-review accreditation process, AACVPR Program Certification reviews individual programs for adherence to the highest standards and guidelines developed and published by a group of professional societies in the field. The certification is for a three-year period.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a medically supervised program designed to improve cardiovascular health following a cardiac-related event or procedure such as heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty, stents, heart surgery, and peripheral vascular disease.

Participation in cardiac and pulmonary rehab can reduce the risk of death from cardiac causes. It can also act as a stepping stone for patients following a cardiac event to form positive habits, increase aerobic fitness, manage new medications, and ensure treatments are effective.

Cardiac Rehab is part of Finley Hospital’s Heart & Vascular Center and UnityPoint Clinic Cardiology’s array of heart care services, including diagnostic tests and cath lab procedures.

This year, Finley Hospital is marking ten years since it first opened its heart catheterization lab – in which the team has performed more than 12,500 procedures.

UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital has also received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This is the highest rating from CMS.

The hospital rating is based on data measuring five aspects of quality of care including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care, as reported by CMS’ Care Compare tool. Only 10 hospitals in Iowa received this rating.
