Over 13,000 Pounds of Household Hazardous Waste Collected

The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) recently conducted two special collection events for household hazardous materials. Events were held at Cascade City Hall and Mount St. Francis in Dubuque. Twenty-five participants at the Cascade event brought in 1245 pounds of materials. The event at Mount St. Francis resulted in 149 households properly disposing of 12,652 pounds of hazardous materials. Items accepted included household cleaners, motor oil/oil filters, residential fertilizers & pesticides, household fluorescent bulbs, sharps, rechargeable batteries, varnish, and paint.

The DMASWA offers ongoing free drop off for household hazardous materials at the Regional Collection Center located at the Landfill. Residents can bring in materials anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Businesses need to call ahead for an appointment.
