Ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States – 90 years of serving the community. In 1928, the organization began as the Dubuque Community Chest and funded nine nonprofit organizations in the community. As the needs of the community grew, so did the Community Chest, which became United Way Inc. Services. All these years of service and collaboration with community partners has made the United Way what it is today.
Today, United Way has evolved to fund programs and initiatives using a community impact model which lays the groundwork to best align funding with programs making an impact where the community needs it the most. United Way invests in 36 programs through 25 organizations within our community. Along with these programs, United Way also collaborates with other community organizations and businesses to support initiatives and volunteerism focused on health, education, and income. Over the 90 years of growth, we have learned that we are stronger together in creating solutions to impact lives.
