“Drink wine, and you will sleep well. Sleep, and you will not sin. Avoid sin, and you will be saved. Ergo, drink wine and be saved.”
Medieval German saying
Open That Bottle Night (OTBN) is an annual event that takes place on the last Saturday in February – this year February 22. It’s a global celebration that encourages people to share a story about a special bottle of wine and then open it and share it with friends and family. The event was created in 2000 by John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter, former authors of the Wall Street Journal’s “Tastings” column.
With the opportunity for this merriment in mind, TeamWine met to propose this idea to the community. The idea behind OTBN is that wine can evoke memories of life milestones, births, deaths, marriages, and holidays. It’s a time to open the heart and share memories, both fond and possibly difficult.
Each member of TeamWine brought a bottle, special to them, to our tasting. Stories regarding each bottle were shared. There was a Greek white, a Michigan red blend and a French Beaujolais. We wish to invite all of you who wish to participate in our own OTBN. Bring your special bottle, the one you’ve been saving for a special occasion, and join us on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 PM at EJ’s Wine Shop and share your stories. See Tips below for full details.
