Patricia Mroczka began her love of art at St. Clara Academy, Sinsinawa, while taking four years of art classes from Sister Dolora Salter, OP (1892–1977). She has since studied art education at the Art Institute of Chicago and taken art classes from prominent artists in the Midwest. Her fondness for architecture also began at St. Clara and led her to an associate degree in architecture. Pat has incorporated this into her artwork for the past 30-plus years, inspired by the quaint homes and downtown area of her home in Downers Grove, IL.

On the Threshold of Three Strokes: A Simple Practice for Visual Journaling and Reflection – Wednesdays, Nov. 3 & 17 @ 6:30 PM-8:30 PM
Sister Stella DeVenuta, OSF, will lead us in this three-part series that involves combining lines and words. Similar to Chinese brush painting, we will create three effortless strokes, to evoke the essence of the three-line verses that will emerge. Participants will playfully engage their imagination using words and their “inner” vision to give expression to the simple brush stroke images.

Tree Ecology: Conduits to the Creator – Saturday, Nov. 6 @ 1 PM-3 PM
This outdoor tree walk will be an educational and contemplative look into the natural world of Sinsinawa Mound, with attention to the inter-relationships between the plants, animals, humans, and the rest of the creatures that make up this community of life. Tim Andrews will lead this walk so we can learn how to identify different plants and trees and discover a spirituality of the land.

It can be difficult to understand or communicate and connect with people who have Alzheimer’s or dementia. They may say or do things that don’t make sense, or they may become upset or angry. Finding creative ways to react and respond can make a big difference in the quality of their lives and enhance ongoing relationships. Providing state-of-the-art information grounded in Alzheimer’s science, Jade Angelica will be teaching techniques drawn from spiritual practices and creative drama.

Voices Serving the Holy in All: A Singing Retreat – Saturday, Nov. 13 @ 10 AM-3 PM
This retreat is for people who don’t sing, and for people who love to sing. Songleader Liz Rog will help us relax into the voices we were born to sing with as we share beautiful, playful, simple songs that can reshape the world. Come bring your voice to help create an island of sanity, a place of belonging. Through group singing, we experience joy, a sense of success, and an expression of shared meaning. We deepen our sense of communion with one another and a sense of sanctuary for all our spirits.
