Sinsinawa Mound Center plans to fully reopen to the public on Sunday, Aug. 15. This includes welcoming visitors and guests to the Sinsinawa Book & Gift Gallery Tuesday-Friday, 11 AM-4 PM, where Sinsinawa Bakery items will also be available, along with the Telling Our Story heritage exhibit, the Tracing a Journey Father Samuel Mazzuchelli exhibit, the Sinsinawa Art Gallery, and Queen of the Rosary Chapel.
Organizations and groups will also be able to schedule meetings, day retreats, and tours at Sinsinawa Mound. Retreats, workshops, and prayer services will continue in a virtual venue unless otherwise noted. Visitors will be asked to have their temperature checked upon arrival and wear a mask when indoors at the Mound.
Sinsinawa Art Gallery: Recent Paintings of Isabel Rafferty, OP – Through Aug. 26
Sister Isabel Rafferty, OP, a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa and artist, studied the medium of water-based oils on canvas the last few years with Professor Bob Tarrell of Edgewood College, Madison, WI. This exhibit showcases her work during that time.
Native American Book Discussion Series (VIRTUAL) – Tuesday, Aug. 10 @ 7 PM
Linda Hogan of the Chickasaw Nation exquisitely examines both natural and internal landscapes in this nonfiction book of essays.
Settler Capitalism and Indigenous Dispossession on the Upper Mississippi (VIRTUAL) – Tuesday, Aug. 17 @ 7 PM
Joshua Wachuta, a public historian who holds his doctorate in U.S. and public history, will offer a historical perspective on how 19th-century businessmen extracted labor, debt, and land from the Ho-Chunk and Dakota nations.
Living Cosmology Reflected in Pope Francis (VIRTUAL) – Saturday, Aug. 28 @ 2 PM
Participants will reflect on Pope Francis’ teaching and look through the doorway of our cosmological identity as a spiritual journey possessing inherent values that live like seeds, constantly activated within us as mutual respect, a culture of care, kindness, justice, and healing.
Summer Organ Concert guests will follow COVID-19 protocol, including wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and using hand sanitizer, and attendance will be limited to 125 people. Guests will have limited access to the main foyer and Queen of the Rosary Chapel. The concerts will also be available online at Sinsinawa.org/live. There is no concert Aug. 4.
Summer Organ Concert: Jan Kraybill – Wednesday, Aug. 11 @ 7 PM
We welcome Jan Kraybill of Kansas City, KS, to her first organ concert of the series. She is a GRAMMY®-nominated concert artist, musical leader, speaker, and advocate for the power of music to change lives for the better.
Summer Organ Concert: Gregory Hand – Wednesday, Aug. 18 @ 7 PM
Gregory Hand is also making his debut organ concert of the series. He is associate professor of organ at the University of Iowa. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of university chapel organist at Northwestern University, where he also taught in the Music Theory department.
Summer Organ Concert: Gregory Zelek – Wednesday, Aug. 25 @ 7 PM
Gregory Zelek rounds out the 2021 Summer Organ Concert series with his first appearance as well. He is the principal organist of the Madison (WI) Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and curator of the Overture concert organ, where he oversees all the MSO’s organ programming.
