Mines of Spain Announces Volunteer Clean Up Day

Mines of Spain State Recreation Area invites volunteers to help care for the park at a special clean-up event on Saturday, Sept. 28. Several parks and forests across Iowa are participating in events for the annual Volunteer Day in Iowa state parks. Hosting this event in Dubuque is the Friends of Mines of Spain who will also be providing refreshments for participants.

“Iowa state parks and recreation areas are important places that many people enjoy for their unique beautiful features and outdoor recreational opportunities.” said Elli Lineburg- Park Manager. “We know a lot of people want to help care for them, and this is a great opportunity to lend a hand.”

The volunteer event at Mines of Spain State Recreation Area will start at 9:00AM at the Julien Dubuque Monument. Volunteers will help with invasive and woody species removal to promote native plant growth and enhance the view shed. Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and sleeves as we will be working in an area with taller vegetation. Please RSVP to minesofspain@gmail.com or by calling Jennifer at 563-590-9868.
