Community Foundation of Dubuque Hosts Event on Dubuque’s Immigration Landscape

People from all over the world have made Dubuque their home, helping make our region a vibrant, thriving place.

On July 24, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque will explore the region’s immigration landscape at its annual Data Walk, focusing demographic changes and immigration patterns throughout history.

Attendees will be treated to snacks and refreshments as they explore displays highlighting data that builds on research gathered through the Immigration Community Assessment. This assessment, published by the Foundation in 2023, captures the needs and priorities of immigrant communities, as well as those of local service providers, to identify key assets in our region and highlight pressing needs.

Ongoing research conducted by the Community Foundation included in the Data Walk will highlight the historical and current realities of local immigrant populations, the barriers they face in our community, and opportunities to create a more welcoming region for all.

Data Walk attendees will have the opportunity to explore one of the driving forces of demographic change within our community in depth through charts, stories and conversations with Community Foundation staff and partners. The goal is to create discussion and collaboration around developing innovative, localized solutions to complex community challenges, a primary focus of the Community Foundation’s work.

“What makes the Data Walk so unique is that it brings together community members with different roles and backgrounds to have conversations and share insights about issues that affect everyone,” says Alex Baum, director of advocacy, data and learning for the Community Foundation. “It offers an opportunity for collaboration and analysis that you don’t get from simply looking at this information from behind a desk.”

The Data Walk will be held in person from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Community Foundation’s Roshek Building offices, 700 Locust St., Dubuque. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
