Loras President Appointed To USCCB Higher Ed Working Group

Loras President Jim Collins (’84) has been appointed as a member of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops’ (USCCB) Higher Education Working Group effective immediately. He will complete the term of University of Portland President Fr. Mark Poorman who will retire at the end of this academic year.

Collins joins Georgetown University (DC) President Dr. Jack DeGioia, Alverno College (WI) President Sr. Andrea Lee, and Mount Saint Mary’s University (CA) President Dr. Ann McElaney – Johnson in the Working Group.

Collins was named the youngest Loras president at the age of 42 in the Spring of 2004. He is concluding his 17th year in the position and has now served as Loras’ longest standing president.

The USCCB is an assembly of the hierarchy of bishops who jointly exercise pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Its mission is to support the ministry of bishops with an emphasis on evangelization, by which the bishops exercise in a communal and collegial manner certain pastoral functions entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus of sanctifying, teaching, and governing.
