Dubuque Oktoberfest, the annual celebration of German and Slavic heritages, is moving from A.Y. McDonald Park to the Q Casino’s Back Waters Stage grounds for its 12th annual festival on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Joe Kane, chair of the Dubuque Oktoberfest planning committee and president of the Camp Albrecht Acres board of directors, states, “Now in our 12th year, Dubuque Oktoberfest has grown into one of the great festivals in our community since we moved to AY McDonald Park, and moving our event to the Back Waters Stage will allow that growth to continue. We will continue to offer our traditional programming that the community has come to enjoy each year, such as the stein holding contest and the wiener dog races.”
Nicole Gantz, marketing committee member and vice president of the Camp Albrecht Acres Foundation, adds, “We are excited to move our event to Schmitt Island, which is getting a lot of attention with the world-class entertainment at Q Casino, the Mystique Ice Center, and the Veterans Memorials. With the flexibility of their space, convenient location, and plenty of parking, the Back Waters Stage area seems like a great fit for our festival.”
“It’s our pleasure to play a very small part in helping to raise funds for such an important organization,” adds Brian Rakestraw, general manager of the Q Casino & Hotel.
New this year will be the waiving of the $5 entrance fee, and instead, they will have a suggested donation to Camp Albrecht Acres, which has been the benefiting charity for all 12 years of the festival. All ages are welcome to attend the festival, which includes music, food, dancing, entertainment and games from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
