The Dubuque County Energy District launched a new initiative, adding a new holiday tradition. The Dubuque County Energy District (DbqCoED) is hosting a “Wrapping for Resilience” initiative from November 9-December 14, 2020. Consumers can support the energy district by purchasing cloth to wrap presents this holiday season.
By switching to reusable cloth wrapping, the goal is to reduce energy used to produce and rid of wrapping paper and shift to reusable cloth for wrapping. Annually, we need 30 million trees to keep up with the American wrapping paper consumption. This new initiative focuses on reducing single use products while being creative to build a more resilient tomorrow.
How the initiative will work:
Step One: Measure the item for wrapping. There will be a form to enter the measurements listed on the dubuquecounty.energydistrict.org website and the DbqCoED Facebook.
Step Two: Choose a color scheme. Note: we are utilizing fabric and ribbon previously slate for the landfill, so we will try to get as close as possible to the request.
Step Three: On the form there will be a link to support the Dubuque County Energy District initiative. Suggested Donation: $5 per piece.
Step Four: Via contactless delivery in Dubuque County, cloth will be delivered prior to or on December 14. If one resides outside of Dubuque County, there will be a shipping fee.
The DbqCoED envisions are 100 % sustainable, efficient, and/or renewable energy by 2050 contributing to a vibrant economy, resilient community, and stable climate for generations to come.
