University of Dubuque was recently awarded a $9,535 grant from the Dubuque Racing Association to purchase a microplate reader to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of UD’s cellular and molecular biology laboratory facilities.
A microplate reader is a device that indirectly counts numbers of cells and/or the absorbance of light at a defined wavelength in a 96-well plate format, which allows for research projects to run much more efficiently. The Epoch Microplate Spectrophotometer will be used in two types of experiential projects – teaching and research – for science and pre-medical students.
