The Carnegie-Stout Public Library now offers a laser cutter and engraver in its Maker Space, the Muse by Full Spectrum Laser. The Muse uses a laser light to cut, mark, or engrave a variety of materials including cardboard, glass, leather, and wood. Patrons can buy materials from the Maker Space or bring in their own. To use the Muse, it costs $0.10 per minute of cutting/engraving, with most projects taking 20 minutes or less to complete.
With the holiday season in full swing, it’s the perfect time to visit the library Maker Space for décor inspiration and gift ideas you can make on your own using the different technology and crafting machines available in the Maker Space. With the Muse, you can create a custom puzzle, make personalized gift tags, etch a photo onto a piece of wood, engrave a set of champagne flutes to ring in the New Year, and more!
The Maker Space is open to the public during regular library hours. For more information, visit dubuque.lib.ia.us/makerspace.
