The East Dubuque District Library Foundation launched a $1.6 million capital fund raising campaign to meet a long-standing need to expand and remodel the existing library. The foundation has already raised $1.2 million, 75% of its goal, with a $400,000 pledge and $833,000 in challenge gift and grant awards. The library foundation needs to raise the final $400,000 to make this dream a reality.
The library identified the need for additional space more than ten years ago. After extensive study and consultation with residents, the library plans to expand its facility by 50%. A key component of the expansion is the construction of a community room for gatherings, speakers, films, workshops, and children’s programs. The community room will seat from 56 to 70 people and will be available for private rentals.
The library will also expand and remodel its existing crowded facilities, creating an enhanced children’s area, quiet areas for teens and adults, private tutoring and study rooms, an outdoor learning space, and ADA compliant bathrooms with infant changing stations. In addition the library will upgrade technology, increase literacy programming, and acquire more materials for learning and programming. Once completed, library patrons will have a state-of-the art building for library resources and services.
