Dubuque Main Street (DMS) has been designated as a 2020 Accredited Main Street AmericaTM program. DMS is the organization dedicated to the development of downtown Dubuque and to build a vibrant community to live, work, and play. Within the last year, the approach taken has been D.O.P.E (Design, Organization, Promotion and Economic Vitality) and, like many, our community outreach and engagement has morphed during the pandemic.
While programs and methods of outreach will continue to adapt to meet community needs into the future, the last 35 years have laid a foundation for what is to come from DMS. When founded in 1985, it was heard in Dubuque “would the last person turn the light off.” Flash forward 35 years, knowing our origins, who would have thought Dubuque would lead the way on state and national levels for private/public partnership accomplishments in city center revitalization? Main Street is a movement and DMS continues to be a trailblazer in the downtown development movement.
