Sustainable Dubuque has been awarded an $8,500 Partners for Places mini-grant from The Funders Network and the Urban Sustainability Directors Network. A joint project of The Funders Network and the Urban Sustainability Directors Network, Partners for Places is a successful matching grant program that improves U.S. and Canadian communities by building partnerships between local government sustainability leaders and place-based foundations. National funders invest in local projects developed through these partnerships to promote a healthy environment, a strong economy and well-being for all residents. Through these investments, Partners for Places fosters long-term relationships that make communities more prosperous, livable and vibrant.
Funds from the grant will be used to conduct a community engagement program exploring how to reduce costs and burdens for marginalized communities. After collecting input, the City hopes to design and implement practices that could benefit these residents through sustainability efforts.
The project will be conducted in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and the Switching Places Foundation. The groups hope to begin outreach in November, with meetings being held for the remainder of the year. This work will inform a larger grant proposal in early 2021.
