The City of Dubuque recently completed construction of a new, 81-space, public parking lot and opened an existing 82-space lot to public parking in the city’s Historic Millwork District. Both lots will temporarily offer free parking while the City reviews paid parking options.
The new parking lot, located at 11th St. and Elm St., opened on December 7, and features permeable pavers to reduce stormwater run-off. The parking lot offers free, four-hour parking between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and free parking on nights (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) and weekends (Saturdays and Sunday). Overnight parking is allowed except during snow events when parking in the lot is prohibited between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to allow for snow removal.
An existing 82-space lot, located at 9th St. and Elm St. behind the Intermodal Center, opened for general public parking on December 17. This lot was previously restricted to permit parking. As of December 17, this lot will offer the same parking as the new lot: free, four-hour parking between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and free parking on nights (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) and weekends (Saturdays and Sunday). Overnight parking is allowed except during snow events when parking in the lot is prohibited between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to allow for snow removal.
Vehicles violating the four-hour limit will receive a $10 parking violation. The temporary free parking in these two lots is expected to be in place until the spring.
