TeamWine usually has music going in the background when we gather to taste. The jazz tunes of Bill Evans Trio rarely disappoints as we sniff, swirl and sip our wines. And for this month we have a couple wines that thrilled us all. They are reasonably priced, both went well with most of our food, and they were purchased just on the other side of the Julien Dubuque Bridge. We hope you’ll try and like them!
Sips
Our white was a 2024 Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay (12.5% abv, $19.99). This wine is 100% Chardonnay from two different vineyards in northeast France. The color was a very light lemon yellow with excellent clarity. Aromas of grapefruit, citrus pith, honeydew melon and one member of TeamWine picked up sea salt and ocean breeze (isn’t wine wonderful!) The wine was full-bodied but contained no heavy oak essence. The body is likely evidence of malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged in stainless for a year prior to bottling. There was a sweetness on the palate with flavors of pineapple, honey, some citrus and apricot being present. The mouthfeel and finish were smooth and drew you to want the next sip. This wine paired well with all we served, from the cheeses, spinach tortellini, and tinned fish. We also felt this would be perfect when it was well-chilled and should be enjoyed on its own for one of the warm days still left in September. We all enjoyed this wine!
