Trainwreck Productions will hold auditions for their upcoming play production of The Totalitarians by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, this Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 PM. (Alternative audition appointments available.)
Two women and two men will be cast:
- FRANCINE: 30s-early 40s. A Speechwriter. Sharp, sleep-deprived, morally fraying idealist.
- PENNY: late 30s-50s. A candidate. Hypnotizingly watchable. Magnetic, terrifyingly composed, impossibly camera-ready.
- JEFFREY: 30s-early 40s. Francine’s husband. A Doctor. Measured, compassionate, quietly emotionally exhausted.
- BEN: 20s. An aspiring revolutionary. Earnest, restless, dangerously eager for meaning.
Nebraska might be on the brink of revolution! Penny, a magnetic and compulsively watchable candidate for state office enlists the help of Francine, a silver-tongued operative. Francine’s husband Jeffrey, a doctor, faces a moral dilemma with his dying patients, one of whom opens his eyes to Penny’s nefarious plans for the Cornhusker State. The Totalitarians is a raucous dark comedy about the state of modern political discourse, modern relationships, and how easy it is to believe truths without facts.
No prepared materials are required for auditions. Actors should come prepared to make bold choices and read excerpts from the script. Those interested in auditioning should complete the online audition form before Saturday, May 16 at TrainwreckProductions.org. The director will send email confirmation of audition appointments on May 16.
Rehearsals and production are tentatively scheduled to begin May 25. Performances will be held July 2 & 4, 2026. There will be no performance on July 3 due to Dubuque’s Fireworks & Fourth of July Celebration.
