Free Nature Writing Presentation at Sinsinawa Mound

Kick off Earth Week by joining author Kevin Koch Monday, April 20 from 6:30 to 8 PM at Sinsinawa Mound Center for a journey that explores his 30 years of nature writing in the Driftless Region. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to come early for mingling and Earth-inspired refreshments.

What began with a short essay titled “Skiing at Midnight” for his students at Loras College sparked a decades-long career for Koch, encompassing the publishing of four books, a long-running outdoors newspaper column and blog, and numerous other publications. In this presentation, Kevin will guide participants on a photo-illustrated journey through a sampling of his work.

Koch is the author of Skiing at Midnight: A Nature Journal from Dubuque County, Iowa; The Driftless Land: Spirit of Place in the Upper Mississippi Valley; The Thin Places: A Celtic Landscape from Ireland to the Driftless; and Midwest Bedrock: The Search for Nature’s Soul in America’s Heartland. He is professor emeritus at Loras College, where he taught in the English Department for 42 years.

Sinsinawa Mound, an event center and Motherhouse of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in Wisconsin, is about five miles northeast of Dubuque, Ia., and 10 miles northwest of Galena, Ill. The new main entrance is located at the intersection of County Roads Z and ZZ. For more information visit Sinsinawa.org/moundcenter.
