NICC Peosta Campus to Host Free “Growing Up with AI” Presentation

Parents and educators navigating the challenges of raising children in an AI-driven world are invited to a timely and empowering event, “Growing Up with AI: Safeguarding Our Kids in the Digital Age,” on May 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) in Peosta, with a virtual attendance option available.

Presented by AI expert Susan Frew, this session offers insight into the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and its growing impact on childhood development, mental health and everyday family life.

Designed for parents, guardians, K–12 educators and youth-service professionals, the session will unpack how tools like smartphones, chatbots and algorithm-driven social media are reshaping how kids think, learn and connect. Rather than promoting fear, Frew focuses on empowering families with clear, practical strategies to foster healthier digital habits—starting with conversations around the dinner table.

Participants can expect a lively, informative presentation filled with relatable examples, light humor and straightforward takeaways. The session also includes a live Q&A with Frew, giving attendees the chance to ask questions and explore personalized solutions.

Those who attend will also receive a printable parent checklist (privacy, monitoring apps, conversation starters) and a curated list of trusted AI‑safety tools (Bark, Canopy, Common Sense Media).
