Jubeck New World Brewing is well known here in Dubuque, being the city’s first craft brewery, and you can tell by how consistently busy it is. When I was purchasing some English Pub Ale in preparation for writing this column, I decided to swing by Jubeck at 5 PM on a Wednesday. I figured I could grab my beer and get out, foolishly assuming that things would be pretty quiet. Maybe there would be a couple of colleagues grabbing a beer after work or a few groups of friends sitting down and socializing. Nothing major, right? Wrong. Every table and bar seat were filled, and it was standing room only at 5 PM as patrons waited for the open mic night to begin. I didn’t hang around for the open mic night, but this story shows how beloved Jubeck is to the Dubuque community. If you live out on the West End and don’t get downtown very often, you owe it to yourself to check it out next time you’re downtown for dinner or entertainment.
