Annual JDIFF Gala Celebrates Latin Tradition

by Amanda Munger

The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival will host a vibrant celebration of animation and Latin tradition during its annual gala on Saturday, February 18th at Hotel Julien Dubuque.

This year’s gala is inspired by the 2017 Disney/Pixar film, Coco, which tells a tale of family, fun and adventure, following aspiring young musician Miguel as he embarks on a journey to the magical land of his ancestors.

“Our gala themes typically celebrate different genres of film and Coco is a great example of a wonderful and colorful animated film that celebrates the Latin tradition of Day of the Dead. It’s a film about celebrating life, and that’s what we want to do at this year’s gala,” said Susan Gorrell, the executive director of the film festival. “We want to really bring that colorful creative energy from the animation genre to life.”
