If your idea of fun in the sun includes listening to some great music, then mark your calendars for the second annual Mineral Point Blues & Roots Festival, August 20th and 21st on the beautiful grounds of Orchard Lawn in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. The inaugural event was held in August of 2019 when hundreds of music fans enjoyed a variety of bands representing the blues and roots genres. Expanding on the success of that first event, organizer Justin O’Brien and his hard working team have increased the festival to two days.
The Mineral Point Historical Society has discovered live music to be a favorite way to connect with both locals and visitors. Building off the popular Jammin on the Porch outdoor musical series, which is also held at Orchard Lawn, O’Brien has tapped into his deep connections with many excellent blues and folk music performers and created the Blues & Roots Festival. Not only is the festival a great way to bring music lovers together in a beautiful setting, proceeds help support maintenance costs for the 153-year-old Gundry House, the local high school music program, and just generally promotes tourism to the Mineral Point area.
Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Beer, wine, soda, and water will be available for purchase as well as tasty treats from local food vendors Pointer Cafe, Gray Dog Deli, Cafe 43, Jose’s Taco Truck, and the Mineral Point High School music booster club. Doors open at 6 PM on Friday night and 12:30 PM Saturday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased at MineralPointHistory.org or at the gate.
