Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce Releases Local Legislative Agenda for 2023

At their third installment of the Tri-State Mayor’s Breakfast, the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce released their local legislative agenda to the public during a forum featuring municipal leaders from Dubuque, Dyersville, Peosta, and Platteville.

President & CEO of the Chamber, Molly Grover, kicked questions for the event focusing on the business community’s top priority, workforce, by asking what each community is doing to address barriers to employment, including housing, childcare, and transportation.

In addition to attracting and retaining workforce in the tri-state region, the Chamber’s local agenda also calls for a renewed emphasis on local support for small business by creation or enhancement of small business grant programs administered at the local level.

The business community also called for a new approach to property taxes that departs from the lowest at all costs mentality and moves toward a strategy that promotes balance between competitively low property tax rates and robust investment in economic development priorities to ensure the region continues to grow.

The Chamber closed the event by announcing their 2023 Legislative Kickoff, 2023 Dubuque Night in Des Moines, and tentative information on their 2023 D.C. Fly-in. Individuals can access the local legislative agenda and information on these upcoming events on the Chamber’s website, DubuqueChamber.com.
