Virtual Nurse Program Implemented at UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital

UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital has launched a Virtual Nurse program that is aimed at ensuring patient safety, improving patient experience, and saving time for bedside RNs. The Virtual Nurse program assists with admissions and discharges for the patients on the Medical-Surgical units at Finley Hospital.

The virtual nurse is Annalisa Till, RN, who is a six-year veteran of the organization with background in cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, prior authorizations, and case management. In the first few weeks of implementing the program, Till has noticed the impact it is having on the workflow for inpatient nurses at Finley Hospital.

To utilize the Virtual Nurse program, nurses on the 4 Med/Surg and 5 Med/Surg units are able to call the virtual nurse. Once the nurse places a call to the virtual nurse and takes equipment to the patient’s room, Till connects with a secure video conferencing software that allows her to complete the admission or discharge processes.

While nursing has taken many different forms, such as the Virtual Nurse program, Till is grateful to be part of this new and innovative option for care delivery, while working with nurses on the unit.
