We’re Here To Bring You Back Better

The Orthopedic Institute at Southwest Health is the area’s most advanced hip and knee joint replacement center, led by Joshua Lindsey, MD, who believes you deserve compassionate care.

Dr. Lindsey, a Harvard-trained orthopedic surgeon, and his staff are the region’s premier experts. They have the latest techniques and equipment, including robotic-assisted knee replacement technology and the skill to perform minimally invasive anterior hip replacements. With the Orthopedic Institute, you are the #1 priority. The team takes time to understand what treatment plan makes the most sense for your unique circumstance. They treat you right. Always.

The Orthopedic Institute is a standout in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine and a champion for your care and recovery. Patients are often looking for the latest technology as they aim for improved outcomes, increased movement, and shortened recovery time. Southwest Health continues to offer a truly custom knee replacement with their existing Conformis Knee Replacement and now the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, the latest technology to aid orthopedic surgeons in performing knee replacement surgeries tailored to each patient. This solution helps patients get back to their life faster, with better recovery. Each option provides a unique advantage to honoring the anatomy of your knee.

Every joint is as different as the patient requiring the replacement. This technology helps surgeons perform a knee replacement using data tailored to their anatomy to ensure predictable results, improve outcomes, increase mobility, and help patients recover faster.

“The VELYS™ Robot is the most advanced knee technology on the market, and we were the first to have it in Wisconsin. This robot-implant combination is approved by the FDA for kinematic knee alignment, allowing me to personalize the surgery to each patient. I have always believed that we should not alter the normal knee kinematics. The goal for knee replacement should be a balanced, personalized knee. With the VELYS™ Robotic Option, I can respect your anatomy and help reduce the pain you are feeling.” Joshua Lindsey, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon at Southwest Health’s Orthopedic Institute.

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution works with the ATTUNE® Knee System, an innovative knee implant designed to work more closely with an individual patient’s anatomy. The ATTUNE® Knee can help increase stability and reduce pain, providing a better range of motion and preventing the unstable feeling some patients experience during everyday activities, such as bending and using the stairs. With these systems together, there is now an option for patients seeking the latest technology designed to provide digital precision in knee replacement.

Another innovative approach to keep you going strong; their direct anterior hip replacement offers many patients a faster return to daily activities. The anterior approach requires a special operating table to reach the hip through the natural gap between muscles. “This technique is muscle sparing,” says Dr. Lindsey. “With this method, we can reduce the trauma to muscles, reduce days in the hospital, and reduce pain. The biggest advantage of this approach is that patients have less cumbersome restrictions placed on them during their initial recovery period.”

While the latest technology and utmost skill make Dr. Lindsey a leader in his field, most of his patients remark on his compassionate care and how comfortable they felt working with him. “I had a total right hip replacement done by Dr. Lindsey. His surgical skills are surpassed only by his compassion and bedside manner. I strongly recommend him!” says Robert F., a patient from Dubuque.
