The James B. and Melita A. McDonough Charitable Foundation distributed $561,528.50 in grants to area nonprofits in 2021, setting a new giving record for the Foundation.

“Every year is important because we fund critical work,” said Ann McDonough, great niece of James and Melita McDonough and Foundation President. “This year, the funding opportunity and our grants increased as the size of the Foundation increased.”

The McDonough Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit organization, was created in 2013 following the deaths of the McDonoughs. Since then, the Foundation has awarded “well in excess” of three million dollars to organizations that support the Foundation’s mission to support “charitable, educational, and health related activities and opportunities for children and families in Eastern Iowa.”
