Loras Student, Dubuque Native Named Newman Civic Fellow

Loras College student Hailey Schultz (’21), a Dubuque native, has been selected as a Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education. Schultz is one of 290 students nationally who will make up the organization’s 2020-2021 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows.

The Newman Civic Fellowship is a yearlong program for students from Campus Compact member institutions. The students selected for the fellowship are leaders on their campuses who demonstrate a commitment to finding solutions for challenges facing communities locally, nationally, and internationally.

As a Newman Fellow, Schultz will spearhead a project to build on existing data about housing needs in Dubuque by researching how other communities are addressing these needs through housing co-operatives and land trusts.
