Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Announces Departure of Concertmaster Eleanor Bartsch

The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra has announced Concertmaster Eleanor Bartsch will step down at the end of this season – after seven years in the principal chair. Bartsch will finish out the 2022-23 season, performing in Ultimate Country Hits on May 19-20 and the classics series finale on April 1-2, 2023. Bartsch was appointed Concertmaster of the DSO in March of 2016.

Based in Chicago, IL, Bartsch has proven to be an outstanding leader and performer during her time with the DSO. During her tenure, she has wowed audiences with her solo work on such pieces as Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 5,” “Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins,” Schwendinger’s Nightingales, and Scheherazade. She has helped lead the DSO, and especially the string section, to a new level of excellence.

Bartsch also serves as Associate Concertmaster of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, is a performing member of the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra, works regular for the Chicago Lyric Opera, and is also first violinist of the Kontras Quartet. She has indicated she is leaving the ensemble to devote more time to family and exciting projects on the horizon closer to home in Chicago.
