Pepper Sprout’s Fine Dining Makes Any Meal Special

by Teri Link

We recently celebrated a Tuesday night at Pepper Sprout. What was so special about that Tuesday? Nothing, other than the fact that we treated ourselves to a delicious meal in a beautiful restaurant. Pepper Sprout’s fine dining atmosphere is defined by a charming juxtaposition of utilitarian and luxurious elements that makes any meal a special one.

A downtown Dubuque staple for more than twenty years, Pepper Sprout is located in a renovated brick-clad building on Lower Main Street. The exposed bricks carry over from the exterior and grace the walls on either side of the long, colorful dining room. A high, pressed tin ceiling reflects the warm glow from the traditional hanging light fixtures, while the row of jewel colored vases lined up on the wall between the bar and the dining room lends an exotic brightness to the space. The elegant yet mellow atmosphere is further defined by classic background music from the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nora Jones.

Dinner options are just as interesting as the atmosphere. The seasonal menu features Midwest cuisine and there are always plenty of starter-type dishes to kick off your meal. Appetizers are joined by small plates, soup, and salads.
