The COVID-19 pandemic forced Dubuque’s Colts Drum and Bugle Corps to cancel their 2020 summer tour. However, the Colts are ready to take the field in 2021 with an exciting new production titled “Leap of Faith”. The program includes music by Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, ABBA, Paul Williams, Kenneth Ascher, and George Michael.

“We shifted as the world did to a virtual environment,” said Jeff MacFarlane, Executive Director of the Colts Youth Organization. “Our tour was cancelled, and we learned about that in March 2020. By early April we had developed an online program called Colts Homeroom, and we used that throughout the summer of 2020 as kind of a summer school for drum corps kids just to keep them engaged. We worked on skill development, fitness, and some interesting topics like show design. We had 200 kids throughout the summer, and that really set us up going into 2021.”

Although they couldn’t get together in person, drum corps students were able to participate in several virtual performances. “Virtual Strangers,” “Virtual Anthem,” “Virtual America,” and “Virtual Dance” are available on YouTube.

The Colts (ages 16-21) and Colt Cadets (ages 12-17) are eager to get back on the road in 2021.
