Zach Keeling, the new CEO of Medical Associates Clinic and Health Plans, oversees the 97-year-old multispecialty group practice founded in downtown Dubuque in 1924 and headquartered in the city. Along with more than 180 providers and a staff of more than 1,000 health care professionals and support personnel in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois, Zach works to carry out the clinic’s mission “to provide superior health care and an excellent patient experience.”

Zach moved into the Medical Associates’ CEO position in January 2021 after years of education and job experience, including five years in Dubuque as Medical Associates’ Chief Operating Officer and a year in transition with former CEO John Tallent. Zach grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Doane College with a math degree and a focus on actuarial science. He began his career working for several health insurance companies, including Aetna and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

“Most of my background has been in the financing side of health care as opposed to the delivery side, so this is my first venture into actually overseeing the delivery side,” he said. “Being a new CEO is nice because I have inherited a really good team, a really good brand, and a really good model.”
