The University of Dubuque’s recent purchase of Wolter Woods and Prairies – 121 acres of unglaciated land in northeast Iowa – for use as an education and research center is a welcome addition to the school’s already robust environmental science and wellness programs.
The new acquisition in Iowa’s Driftless Area is located north of Balltown, IA, about 25 miles from the main University of Dubuque campus. Former owners Mari and Gary Wolter started Wolter Woods and Prairies in 2005 with the purchase of 38 acres. Over time, the couple continued to buy parcels of land to add to their original purchase.
