Affordable, quality childcare has long been an issue for today’s families. In fact, a 2016 survey by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States revealed that nearly 50% of 600 Dubuque-area parents who responded had either turned down a job or were forced to work fewer hours as a result of childcare issues. The opening of the Marita Theisen Childcare Center at Dubuque’s historic Steeple Square, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is helping address that concern as well as offering free preschool instruction to area four-year-olds.
