New Technology Offers Treatment Option for Depression

Depression is the leading cause of disability among people ages 15 to 44 in the United States. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, major depression affects about 6.7% of the U.S. population over age 18. A debilitating and disorienting mood disorder causing a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in life, depression (referred to as clinical depression or a major depressive disorder) can last a lifetime. It affects how one feels, thinks, and behaves, leading to a variety of emotional and physical problems. One may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities and if one doesn’t seek relief, depression can have a significant adverse impact.
