Dubuque County Historical Society Receives $15,000 Grant

The Dubuque County Historical Society and its Mathias Ham Historic Site are pleased to announce a funding award from the Jeffris Family Foundation. The Jeffris Family Foundation has been dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the Midwest by providing funding support to non-profit organizations working to preserve regional and national historic properties since 1979.

The $15,000 in grant funding will support the completion of an historic structure report for the Mathias Ham House, 2241 Lincoln Ave. in Dubuque. The report will provide comprehensive documentation of the Ham House that will be used to establish a long-term preservation plan for this historical resource. The work will be conducted by Heritage Works Dubuque and according to the historic structure report standards set forth by the National Parks Service for preservation.

The ongoing preservation of the Mathias Ham House is crucial to the protection of this significant structure that exemplifies the cultural, social, and architectural history of the city, state, and nation, and quantifies the economic value of historic preservation in Iowa by promoting heritage tourism as a growth industry.
