New Senior Living Community Underway on the Mount Carmel Campus

The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) and Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) have entered into a joint venture and shared ministry to meet the needs of the growing older adult population in the Dubuque area.

The project will transform the 130-year-old property located on the Mount Carmel Campus to a senior living community that offers a full continuum of care. BVM Sisters will continue to reside on campus and will welcome older adults from the greater community. Preserving the historical Motherhouse, the new residential community will include 42 assisted living apartments, 20 memory care apartments, and 60 long-term care suites south of the Motherhouse. Phase two includes deconstructing buildings north of the Motherhouse to make way for 112 senior independent-living apartments.

Senior Housing Partners, based in Roseville, MN, is the project developer. The new building is designed by Pope Architects, based in St. Paul, MN. Conlon Construction, based in Dubuque, IA, is the general contractor.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the project took place Thursday, June 13.
