Mayor Roy Buol represents Dubuque in the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI), an organization of 85 mayors from river communities situated along the banks of the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana. Founded in 2012, the MRCTI is an influential voice, lobbying in Washington, D.C. for flooding and floodplain issues, habitat restoration, river water quality, and river infrastructure planning. The MRCTI’s mission is to protect and restore the Mississippi River so that it can support not only human culture and economics, but also the river’s natural ecosystem and wildlife.
