The Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council (DALMC) is a Newly Funded Partner of the United Way of the Dubuque Area Tri-States for the Tech WORKS program offered in the Dubuque Community School District. The Tech WORKS program is a high school program for students interested in building a foundation in a career in advanced manufacturing, construction, or engineering. The United Way funds will assist DALMC and expand the program for students interested in auto and diesel mechanics. It gives the student a clear pathway in high school to lead to further education and ultimately a career they are passionate about. Along the way, the student enhances their skills and abilities while making connections with potential employers. The goal of Tech WORKS is to give opportunities and recognition to students that excel in more than just a high grade point average.
The Tech WORKS program fits very well with the United Way of Dubuque and Tri-States’ education pillar, and more specifically “programs raising post-secondary education and career exposure.” Students attend career exploration fairs, company tours, apprenticeship tours, and job shadows to expose students to careers.
The Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council is grateful for the newly formed partnership and funding to be able to assist more students.
