Kalona, located less than two hours from Dubuque via US-151 South, is home to one of the largest Amish settlements west of the Mississippi River. The Amish have lived and prospered in and around Kalona for nearly 175 years. Today there are approximately 1,200 Amish residents living in the area where there are five main levels of conservatism.
